The Old Hix School by TheMan268 The Old Hix School by TheMan268
This is the Hix School in rural Tennessee, U.S.A. It was a one room school house from around the turn of the last century. As you can see it has about fallen down and soon will be forgotten by all as the older people in this rural Tennessee area pass away.

Bet those walls have so many stories to tell...old building but a lot of character. Shots like this remind me when life was less stressful and innocent.

I took that photo in May 2012. I intend to go back this May and take another photo to see how much more the building has degraded.

That's a great idea, there are many places I go for non car shots and things change. The city (I primarily go to downtown Chicago) it's hard to keep up with the changes but the country, I have shots that I would love to revisit but never have. As much as I like going into a big city as it is an adventure (at times too much to see) but when I hit the country I feel more at peace. It really changes the way I look at things when I shoot, more relaxed and nobody to bother me so in reality a much bigger adventure. But I never considered going back to some the buildings and farms that are in various stages of decay which make for some great shots. Weather is changing so a mini-vacation is long overdue but I remember one time I traveled two hours to go to Chicago and basically turned around and headed home via the long route. Just wasn't in mood for the fast pace of the city that day and ended up getting some nice shoots, but also got a few rods. Car shows are great but hoods up and many distractions so some the best car shots are in a natural environment. But in the end no matter what the photos turned out, I had an enjoyable day and I am guilty of forgetting what makes feel the happiest...Have to change my attitude toward life in that respect.

Looking forward to when you do go back and post the present day shot...and thanks, you brought something to think about/look forward to. But as they say actions speak louder then words......

As promised I went back but the building is just a pile of rubble. So sad. Here is the thumb to the new photo. The Old Hix School Revisited by TheMan268

Very nice image and a well deserved DD. It's interesting to look at that building that's had such a very short life span compared to that
sedimentary rock wall in the background that's been there for millions of years and will still be there long after we're all long gone. MikeZ.

What a hillside by those trees in the back. This reminds me of another abandoned schoolhouse somewhere north of PA Rt. 322 near a farm, I went to it and saw the interior paintballed. It was in an area overgrown with trees so I think it's been abandoned for a long time, After I visited someone put "NO TRESPASSING" Signs up but not the very next day.

Great photo!  Such a shame that it wasn't kept up.  Here in NJ we have a few which are now historical landmarks or were converted into other buildings.

That's life. Everything grows and falls apart. This is such a example for it. So many memories but will fade away eventually. That is why I am happy that some people thought about our history and kept their secrets hidden for us to unravel. How amazing what a picture can do to someones imagination.

Great picture.
There is school house that is still standing in Columbia, Illinois called the Shoemaker School. It's a one room school house that a docter built for his kids on 1867. It's really neat. I have pictures in my gallery if you want to see them.
