QuanticChaos1000 is right. I've seen a 1956 before. Its cab shape is a bit different, along with different badging and a more squared-off front end. Like this-

This particular truck on the other hand resembles the 1953-1955 model. For comparison, here's a 1955 F100 street rod-

The cab shape on this 1955 is exactly the same as the truck you shot here.

And the grill land badges make this a 1953 specifically.

I can't recall ever seeing a 1953 in person, but I have seen a mostly stock 1955. The hoodside badging didn't look like what this truck has.

Depends on the year and condition and where you are, my 56 is a Mercury Cab Over, mega rare and Canadian only, they are like capturing a unicorn, the 53's are really common, that was an anniversary year for Ford (1903-1953) and they sold well. I got my 53 for free when i got it in the late 90's, it was not too bad for damage, no rust, and a seized engine (239 Flathead V8) The 56 Mercury I was lucky, I traded a 54 Mercury Woody wagon to a friend for it, it's a rust free running driving truck that needed some glass, the wagon I traded for it cost me $250 Canadian to buy.

Seems odd having hubcaps from a Ford Windstar on it if you ask me, but I still love this beauty.

Automatic or manual?
I'll assume since A: it's American and B: it's the V8 version, that it's an automatic.

I don't know what transmission it has.

Probably automatic.

I'm actually looking for something like this, but I really don't like automatic transmissions.

So I think it's the straight six engine for me as those usually did have a stick shifter.
